Statement of Support for National Filipino Elderly Week

This year marks the tenth year of Proclamation No. 470 which serves as a reminder to pay respect and be grateful to our elderly population. We celebrate National Filipino Elderly Week from October 1 to 7, 2024 to honor and appreciate the invaluable contributions of our senior citizens to our nationโ€™s development.

Senior citizens accumulated knowledge and experience which can be invaluable to younger generations. Through their mentorship and teaching, we grow personally and professionally. We benefit from their wisdom and their input can shape the campus policies, curricula, and strategic direction. We respect their ability to decide and solve problems.

Let us affirm our commitment to enhancing the quality of life of the elderly by advocating for their right and ensuring they have access to essential services. We can also engage our elderly in our community outreach and extension activities organized by our campus, so they remain active and engaged member of society.

This week, let us recognize and value their contribution to make our academic life more vibrant. We can take this time to visit our elderly relative or former teacher, make a video call, share photo memories with them, tell your most cherished story in your social media, and participate in community activities that celebrate their legacy.

Together, let us build an academic environment where our senior citizens can contribute to a richer, more diverse educational experience for all members of the university community. Happy National Filipino Elderly Week!
