Munting Paaralan concluded
ISU Cauayan, Cauayan City, Isabela – The extension and training program “Munting Paaralan” that brought significant hope to the lives of the Out-of-School Youth (OSY) known to the project as “Akays” has completed its three-year implementation. The project leaders, Dr. Genalyn L. Capelo, Dr. Josephine Cristobal, and Dr. Donabel Dumelod initiated the program in January 2019 and finished December 2022.
The project was funded by Isabela State University-Cauayan City Campus in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and Cauayan City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD). The two programs; the Basic Literacy Program (KalyEskwela) and the Continuing Education Program (KliniKalye) were initiated during the conduct of the program with the professional participation of academicians from the College of Education. With the priority goal of ensuring all the “Akays” to pass all the aspects of the Inter-District Revalida, the Munting Paaralan Project produced graduates of Elementary and Junior High School from the Out-of-School Youth.
With the project’s best practices and lessons learned, the Isabela State University-Cauayan City Campus’ Extension and Training Services Office will revive and re-establish the program at a whole new level. This program will be catered to the OSY members who are part of the “Persons Deprived of Liberty” community of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in 2023. (FP)
