ISU-Cauayan City Guidance Office and Planning and Development Office conducted a pre-internship seminar with the aim to equip student-interns with essential knowledge and skills for their upcoming internship at the campusโ€™ gymnasium, December 3.

Anchored with the theme: โ€œSafeguarding Interns: Comprehensive Insights into the Safe Spaces Act and Data Privacy Actโ€, the seminar intend to introduce the importance of creating and recognizing safe spaces, as well as the role of data privacy in their future workplaces.

โ€œWe believe that a safe and respectful workplace is essential for fostering creativity, innovation, and personal growth,โ€ Dr. Arnold Pascua, Planning and Development Director said.

โ€œBy understanding and practicing these principles, you can contribute to a positive and productive internship experience for yourself and others,โ€ Pascua added.

Moreover, Resource Speaker Kesiah Soriano joined in a comprehensive discussion of personality development and work ethics, accenting the significance of possessing a growth mindset in achieving success.

Soriano further elaborated the value of knowing etiquettes at workplaces as it serves as guides toward positive behavior.

Meanwhile, Atty. Divina Joy Ventura-Gonzales discussed Republic Act No. 11313, commonly known as the Safe Spaces Act or the Bawal Bastos Law, providing substantial information on the rights of everyone against any sexual harassment.

Ventura-Gonzales aided the student-interns of a wider specification of the said law, mainly on its scope as it is stretched not just only in workplaces but also in streets, educational and training institutions, and online.

Furthermore, Atty. Robert Valenzuela delved into the discussion of Republic Act No. 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012 through cases, to better understand its concept and principles.

Aside from the law itself, Valenzuela also cited provisions of laws and other resources that governs the right of individuals to data privacy, supplementing the student-interns with the sufficient knowledge to know about their basic rights.

Student-interns who attended the seminar expressed gratitude to the proponent of the seminar as they opened a door of insightful information to have themselves protected during their internships.

โ€œI am very glad that the guidance office of our campus, in coordination with other offices, spearheads this seminar. It gave us enough courage to face our internship without doubt and fear that we would fail or be abused because we are sworded with the words that they have poured us today,โ€ said Raquel Cacayan, a BSLM fourth year student.

The seminar is expected to provide the student-interns with the necessary skills, knowledge, and behavior as they embark on their new journey as interns for their chosen workplace.
