Cauayan City, in partnership with Isabela State University-Cauayan Campus and the Department of Science and Technology under the Smarter City Project, has been selected as one of 50 global finalists in the 2025 Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge for its proposed Community Dengue Early Warning System (Project C-DEWS).

Project C-DEWS is an enhanced ovicidal larvicidal (OL) trap system that uses Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology to remotely monitor the presence of Aedes aegypti eggs, the primary dengue vector, and the status of OL trap devices through an online platform. It enables early detection of outbreak risks, supports timely and data-driven responses, and guides community sanitation efforts.

ISU-Cauayan handles research and data analysis, DOST provides the technological infrastructure, and the LGU oversees coordination and implementation. The system promotes proactive prevention, sustained public engagement, and scalable application across other areas.

As a finalist, Cauayan City receives $50,000 to test the prototype and will join the Bloomberg Ideas Camp in July. In January 2026, 25 cities with the most promising solutions will each receive $1 million and technical support for full implementation.

Project C-DEWS reflects the cityโ€™s focus on smart governance, community participation, and data-informed health strategies. If successful, it could serve as a model for dengue prevention in other high-risk regions.
