Isabela State University (ISU) Cauayan Campus intensified its sustainability thrust through a purposeful tree-planting initiative at the extension site in Sitio Manalpaac, San Pablo, Cauayan City, February 20.
The activity mobilized Bachelor of Agricultural Technology (BAT) fourth-year students alongside faculty members from the Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT), deepening the campus’ advocacy for environmental protection and innovative resource utilization.
The initiative formed part of the campus’ flagship bamboo project, which aims to secure sustainable and locally sourced raw materials for the development of bamboo textiles. By cultivating bamboo seedlings within the campus’ extension area, ISU Cauayan strategically invested in a long-term ecological and economic resource that supports both instruction and enterprise development.
The bamboo seedlings were generously provided by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Naguilian, strengthening collaboration between the campus and government environmental agencies.
Faculty members supervised the planting process while students actively participated in site preparation and seedling establishment, transforming the activity into a hands-on learning engagement that integrated environmental responsibility with technical application. The project not only advanced reforestation efforts in the area but also laid the groundwork for future bamboo-based innovations within the campus.
