A proposed training center for weavers and textile supply chain workers is gaining ground as local tourism and academic leaders move to strengthen the region’s growing textile industry and connect community-based artisans to wider markets, September 9.

Officials of Isabela State University (ISU) Cauayan Campus, alongside key tourism and industry stakeholders, conducted a site inspection for the proposed training center, envisioned to equip weavers and textile supply chain workers with skills responsive to the increasing demand for locally produced textiles in domestic and international markets.

The initiative convened academic expertise, tourism development, hospitality, and the local weaving sector, signaling a collaborative push to transform the region’s weaving communities into a more organized and market-responsive textile industry.

Among those present during the inspection were Provincial Tourism Officer Joanne Dy-Maranan; Cecilia Dy, President of the Region 2 Cagayan Valley Tourism Council (R2CVTC); Vivian Valencia Gonzales, Tourism Council Treasurer; and ISU Cauayan Campus officials.

Dy-Maranan emphasized the need to expand the region’s growing network of weavers and textile supply chain workers to address the rising demand for textile products both locally and abroad.

Supporting the initiative, Project TETRA Project Leader Ronald Isidro Jr. facilitated efforts to connect local weavers and artisans with the project, strengthening pathways for collaboration while helping sustain the textile supply chain.

Meanwhile, Prof. Marisol S. Foronda, PhD, Cluster Executive Officer, presented key challenges confronting the textile sector and outlined potential solutions to improve production capacity and better align local textile products with market demands.

The proposed training center is expected to serve as a platform for skills development, industry collaboration, and supply chain strengthening, potentially enabling local weavers and artisans to scale their production while preserving and advancing the region’s textile traditions.

The initiative positions weaving as a potential driver of livelihood generation, cultural preservation, and regional economic development.
