The Isabela State University (ISU) strengthened its institutional mechanisms for handling workplace grievances, sexual harassment complaints, and other gender-related cases through a two-day CODI Mechanism Orientation and Training, September 22โ23.
Organized to sharpen the knowledge and procedural readiness of university personnel, the training equipped Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI) members, executive officers, Gender and Development (GAD) focal persons, deans, and other concerned personnel with practical guidance on investigation, complaint filing, case reporting, and administrative proceedings.
The first day, held at the ISUโEchague Campus, tackled the handling of workplace grievances and administrative proceedings, followed by discussions on complaint filing and procedures for sexual harassment cases. Atty. Adrienne Aquino and Atty. Noreen Lagmay served as resource speakers, while Atty. Sherwin T. Mostoles, University Director for Legal Services and Security Enforcement, facilitated the open forum and concluding discussions.
The second day at the ISUโCauayan Campus expanded the training to the legal frameworks governing sexual harassment, gender-based violence, and related complaints. Aquino discussed the Safe Spaces Act (Republic Act No. 11313) and its intersection with mental health, while Lagmay covered the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act (RA 7877) and the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 (RA 9262). Ms. Jenalyn Viray, JD, also discussed the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710).
The afternoon sessions shifted from legal provisions to application, with Lagmay leading complaint-filing exercises and case-based discussions on common reporting scenarios. These sessions allowed participants to examine how established procedures and relevant laws apply to actual workplace situations.
The activity also highlighted the shared responsibility of university officials and support personnel in maintaining appropriate reporting and response mechanisms. ISU seeks to promote more consistent and informed institutional responses to cases involving harassment, discrimination, and other workplace grievances.
