IAT wraps up Vegetable, Broiler, and Mushroom Production training

Broiler production beneficiaries receive their chicks after the training

ISU-CC, Cauayan City, Isabela – The Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT) held a three-day training on broiler and mushroom production on October 7, 14, and 21 with a total of 60 beneficiaries comprising youth, women, and farmers in three different barangays in the city and neighboring municipality.

The vegetable production was conducted at Barangay Nagrumbuan, Cauayan City, and mushroom production at Barangay Turod, Reina Mercedes, and Barangay Nungnungan II, Cauayan City. The Broiler production was administered at Barangay Nagrumbuan.

The series of trainings is part of the extension project titled “Pato Manok at Gulay, Maka-Kabuteng Pangkabuhayan” of IAT in partnership with Cauayan City Green Ladies Organization (CCGLO), Isabela Green Ladies Organization (IGLO), Department of Agriculture (DA)-Local Government of Cauayan and Department of Agriculture Regional Office (DAFRO)-Regional Crop Protection Center Region 02.

IAT jumpstarted the training with Values formation and Team building at Nagrumbuan to promote connectivity and unity for an orderly and strong community upon launching the project on January 21.

The trainings were designed to be conducted at Nagrumbuan but other barangays represented by their Barangay Captains requested the same training for their residents.

The program aims to create alternative income-generating activities that could be transformed into a small-medium scale enterprise in the adopted community.  It is also intended to uplift the socio-economic status of the recipients by providing startup fruiting bags for mushroom production and chicks with vitamins and feeds for broiler production, technical assistance, and consultancy services.

Backed by a sustainability plan, IAT will continue generating production inputs for expansion and dissemination and providing training, technical assistance, and services to strengthen the viability of the project in the years to come.
